✔️ Seasoning Instructions for Red Clay and Black Clay Pots (Before First Use)
To strengthen your earthen pot and enjoy the best cooking experience, seasoning before first use is essential.
If you search on YouTube, you’ll find many methods—but don’t worry! We’re sharing the two easiest and most effective techniques here. No confusion, just simple steps.

🟤 Why Seasoning Is Important
Seasoning makes the clay pot stronger, closes tiny holes in the surface, and helps the pot absorb oil properly.
This creates a natural non-stick layer inside the pot, so food won’t stick, and cooking becomes smoother and healthier.

Since these pots are made from 100% natural clay, your first few dishes may carry a slight earthy taste, and food might stick.
Seasoning removes that raw flavor and prepares the pot for long-lasting, healthy cooking.

🔸 Method 1: Rice Starch Water (Low-Cost & Traditional)
Soak the Pot:
When you receive your new clay pot (and lid, if included), wash it thoroughly and soak both the pot and lid in clean water for 15 to 20 minutes.

ℹ️ Only the pot needs seasoning — the lid should be washed but not seasoned.

Boil Rice Starch Water:
Prepare rice starch water (kanji vellam) and pour it into the pot.
Boil on low flame for 10–15 minutes, then let it cool naturally.
This helps seal the pores and strengthens the pot.

Repeat (Optional but Recommended):
You can repeat this process 2–3 times for better results.

🔸 Method 2: Oil & Onion Frying (Quick Seasoning)
This is a simple and effective way to remove raw clay smell and begin the oil absorption process.

After Soaking:
Once the pot is soaked and dried completely, place it on the stove.

Add Oil:
Pour 5–8 tablespoons of any cooking oil (like coconut, groundnut, or sesame oil) into the pot.

Fry Onions:
Add a few slices of onion and sauté gently over low to medium flame for 8–10 minutes.
The pot will start absorbing the oil.

Cool Down:
Turn off the flame and let the pot cool naturally.
Discard the onions and wipe off any extra oil with a clean cloth.

👉 As the pot absorbs oil, it creates a natural non-stick surface that improves cooking results over time.

⚠️ Do not use high flame. Always start with low flame and handle gently during the first few uses.

✔️ Final Step: Dry Naturally
After seasoning, allow the pot to dry completely in a well-ventilated space — preferably under sunlight.

🌿 Tip: For the first 2–3 uses, cook liquid-based dishes like curries or rasam. This helps extend the life of your pot.

✔️ Before First Use:
Kindly season the pot as per the instructions given above. Also, detailed instructions leaflet is provided with every package.

✔️Cooking Tips:
Start cooking with a low flame and gradually move to medium flame. Sudden temperature changes may lead to cracking. Avoid preheating an empty pot or adding cold water/oil to a hot pot. Always add water/oil first, then start heating the pot.

✔️Cleaning Instructions:
Avoid using harsh detergents as clay is porous and might absorb chemicals.

✔️Mold Issues:
Since clay is porous, it might absorb moisture from the air, leading to mold formation. If mold forms, sprinkle baking soda on the inside & outside of the pot, rinse with warm water using a soft brush/sponge, and it's good to use again.

✔️Nowadays, clay pots are mostly used on electric or gas stoves, where the heat is focused on a small area at the bottom. Over time, small cracks may appear, which is normal and won't affect the pot's performance. To prevent further cracking, you can apply Fuller's earth to the outside of the pot.

🖤 What is a Deep Burned Clay Pot (Black Pottery)?
Deep Burned Clay Pots—also known as Black Pottery—are made using an ancient, traditional pottery technique.
Unlike regular red clay pots, which are kilned once, deep burned pots are fired twice. During the second firing, the pots are stacked and burned with wood and hay at high temperatures—up to 1200°C.
This process:
* Makes the pots twice as strong and more durable
* Naturally gives them a black color due to the high heat
* Helps them withstand direct high flame on gas stoves with ease

Color Changes Are Natural:
While cooking, red pots may turn black and black pots may turn reddish where the flame hits. This is normal and doesn’t affect performance.

✅ Red Clay vs. Black Clay – Which Is Better?
Both are excellent!
Don’t get confused—red and black clay pots are equally good in performance and cooking quality.
* Black pots are just extra strong because they are deep burned (double fired).
* Red pots are also great and ideal for daily cooking.
Whichever pot you choose, seasoning is required for both.
We will guide you with clear instructions and support for seasoning.

PRODUCT DAMAGED DURING TRANSIT

⚠️ Disclaimer – Handmade Clay & Bronze Cookware
At Ecocraft India, each product is handcrafted using traditional methods passed down through generations. Our cookware is not machine-made, which gives every piece its unique identity and natural imperfections.

🍲 Clay Cookware
🌀 Handcrafted Uniqueness
All clay pots are made using a potter’s wheel — without dies or molds. This ensures every item is one-of-a-kind.

🔄 Size & Shape Variations

Due to handcrafting, ±10% variation in size and shape is normal.

Clay pots are made with a slightly curved base to support thermal expansion on gas stoves.

⚠️ Avoid using flat-base pots on direct heat — they may crack.

✅ Use a round metal ring/coaster for better balance during cooking.

✋ Finish & Texture

Minor surface roughness is due to extra sand added for durability.

Small chipped edges can occur during bulk handling/shipping — this does not affect performance.

🌑 Black Clay Pots

Black color forms from deep firing at 1200°C+.

Red spots may appear from heat variations — purely natural and harmless.

🔴 Red Clay Pots

Natural marks (black, purple, white) may show due to kiln temperature changes.

No dyes or chemicals used — 100% natural clay.

💧 Sweating of Pots

Clay is porous; slight sweating/seepage may happen with long storage — part of its natural cooling effect.

🛕 Bronze Cookware (Kansa)
🛠️ Fully Handcrafted
Our bronze cookware is made by melting copper and tin together at extremely high temperatures (1000°C+), then molded by hand.

🔁 Size & Weight Variations

Because each piece is poured and shaped manually, minor variations in size and weight are normal.

The listed sizes are approximate and may vary slightly from batch to batch.

These differences do not affect quality or usability — they are part of traditional handmade bronze craftsmanship.

Due to handcrafted nature, products may not look exactly like the photo. Expect minor differences in finish, shade, or dimensions.
